The Notting Project began as an underutilized basement with the potential to become so much more. Our goal was to transform the lower level into a warm, moody retreat that felt luxurious and inviting, while still being practical for how this family actually wanted to use the space.

Before making the aesthetic decisions, we first had to work within the existing conditions and technical constraints that often come with lower-level renovations. We carefully considered the layout, lighting, and functionality to create a space that felt intentional rather than like an afterthought. Deep blue tones set the mood, while warm lighting, rich wood details, and custom millwork added depth and warmth throughout. A built-in bar was designed to make entertaining effortless, while the integrated media unit created a comfortable focal point for movie nights and slow evenings at home.

The result is a basement that no longer feels like a basement, but an extension of the home designed around the way this family lives. Intimate, comfortable, and layered with rich colour and texture, the space is equally suited to entertaining friends or settling in for a quiet night at home.
